Well, do you?!?! Gryffindor's own newspaper, the PAW PRINT, is a GREAT way to earn them!!! Not only do you get those much wanted POINTS, but it's a great way to see your name in lights. Okay, not so much lights. But it's a great way to share your creativity and sense of humor. And the great news is..... we're releasing a March issue at the end of the month!! Why is this great news? Because you have TEN DAYS to write something, earn points, and see your name in lights. No seriously. It's shiny. Very self-gratifying. You should totally try it! But anyways, all jokes aside, (cause let's face it- I'm no Fred or George Weasley in the humor department) if you're interested (and I really hope you are...*insert supportive grin here*) click HERE to discover more about submitting to the Paw Print, or contact Professors Zenix James or Miette Bynny via PM today! Hello Lions! As most of you are now on holiday break (or quite near it), we hope you've had a great semester in your real lives! I wanted to post with a reminder to all of our lions that the fall term is quickly coming to an end. It definitely snuck up on us! That means there's about four weeks until the fall term ends at HOL. Which means that's four weeks to get all of your homework turned in and score some last minute points so you can get quills for your classes before this term comes to an end! Remember, the more points you win in a class, the more likely it is for you to get shiny awards for your class too! :) (Disclaimer: Not all classes give out awards though, although many do.) There's also many things to do on HOL during your break as well, especially if you're bored and want to be productive in all things HOL. Feel free to check out the Library and Arts Department contests that are taking place right now and compete in them! As for Gryffindor, our house activity Apples to Apples is winding down in the common room, but feel free to post in the clubs, dens, or areas, etc. you belong to in the common room. We've been a little dead lately, and we miss you all terribly! We hope you're having a great holiday season, The Gryffindor Staff September Updates 09/23/2011
Hello, Lions! How is your first month of the new year going? We hope you're all doing well! At the moment, Gryffindor is holding a wondeful second place in the house points competition, only behind Ravenclaw. For those of you (which we secretly hope is MOST of you!) looking for the glory that comes with being the top Gryffindor points earner, you've completed all your assignments that are posted, and put projects up for both Art and Library departments, and you're working on icons for the HOL LIMS contest. Now that you've completed all of that and are waiting for your house points to flow in, what else is there for you to do? Well, luckily we've got quite a bit going on in the Gryffindor Common Room lately! First of all, have you visited your den yet? No? You really should! It's a fun place to get to know new people and some of the dens have been sort of quiet. This year's dens are different than the past; we're having an Gryffindor point house competition. The way this works is there are two dens on each team: Team Red versus Team Yellow. Each den on each team works together to take the other team down. So far Team Red is winning, but that can change at any moment, especially with your help! So what are you waiting for? If you have yet to find out what den you're in (And what team you're on...) visit HERE today! Have you heard about the Library projects? There are two (2) challenges that you can compete for in-house points (AKA rubies) for fun. There is a Poetry Challenge currently taking place for making a personification poem. If you click Poetry Challenge above it will take you to the thread that explains what a personification poem is and basically gives you a very easy step-by-step process into writing it. I just did one myself! :) Poetry has never before been this easy. The second challenge is a Prose Challenge. After reading the prompt, get your creative juices flowing and write a lovely story about what happened to you. We're all looking forward to reading it! Have you been competing in the September den challenge? It's still going on and you can still sign up to compete today! All of the challenges have now been posted. Just make sure you get all of your challenge submissions in.... they're due within the next couple of weeks. Visit this forum for more details. Last, always remember that Gryffindor has some amazing clubs! You can join just one or you can join all of them, it's really up to you.
New House Activity: Back to School! 09/04/2011
Welcome back students, and welcome to our new ones! With the beginning of the new term, Gryffindor is celebrating by kicking off our first activity of the term. It's called "Back to School!" and can be found in the new forum with the same name in Daisy Dodderidge's Domain section in the Gryffindor Common Room. The basic premises of the activity is those who sign up will be given ten small tasks to complete. One can choose to complete all tasks, one can choose to complete just a few. It really is up to you. With that being said, there are prizes involved, and the more tasks you complete, the bigger of a shot you have to win said prizes. Prizes are as follows: 1.) For every task you complete you will receive 5 rubies (our Gryffindor in-house point system). 2.) You can win more rubies if you win first, second or third place in the competition. 3.) You can win a badge/award to be displayed on your Gryffindor forum profile! 4.) The top ruby winner will win 100 beans. That's a LOT of easy rubies peeps, And awards!! Totally fantastic. *nods* For more info on just how these prizes are given out you can visit here: http://gryff.net/CR/index.php?/topic/1376-school-reception-area/ So what are you waiting for? Sign up HERE What?! HOL is Broken?? 08/19/2011
Well, my first year lions, did you log onto HOL this morning and have a mini heart-attack because the Message of Doom was posted instead of the Entrance Hall? For those of you who haven't yet it looks like this: Oh noes! Yep. Older students know this sign very well. It must be sign-up season after all. It's a miracle we made it this far through August.... you're all thinking. However, the new students are freaking out. Where did HOL go?? Oh no! Why isn't it working? *Shakes computer* So I thought I'd come here and do a little bit of explaining. I'll start with this is perfectly normal. No, really. It happens this time every year. And you know how you're freaking out? We freaked out the same way our first years at HOL too. But you get used to it. And everything will be okay. :) For those of you wondering what this means (or why it happens), it's pretty easy to explain. Just look at the sign above! "Bandwidth Limit Exceeded." Bandwidth=the amount of page views our site's allowed to have in one month. Due to sign-ups and a lot of new students, we always crash this time of the month. ALWAYS. It's because we're refreshing the page a million times because we're waiting for a prefect to message us back. Or we want to see if our Art Department project has been accepted. No matter what the reason, we tend to visit HOL a lot more than normal in this month. So yes, I'm getting at HOL's going to be down. For the rest of the month. Until September 1st. But..... I have good news to go with that bad! Professor Bynny, knowing this was going to happen, went through several days ago and listed all the class links on Gryff. (<-- clicky here for the thread) So now you can continue to do your homework early and see announcements for your class without HOL! Can I get a round of applause for Miette being amazing like that? While HOL is down, this would be a GREAT time to get to know Gryffindor better! We're going to start getting things rolling for the semester soon. There is a brand new RPG forum, there are clubs to join, and there are many topics to choose to talk about. Have you signed up yet? Find us here! gryff.net/CR Well, lions, do you feel a little bit better now? I hope so! And don't worry, everything will be back up and sparkly the first of September. Just be patient. ^_^ If you love to write, whether it's articles, stories, poetry, or just for fun, you should look into joining the Paw Print! The Paw Print is our house's online newspaper. Sometimes it has announcements, but often it has great columns to enjoy, some of which are featured in almost every issue. (My favorite is the Dear Snape columns) If you would like to check out the last issue, you can find it here: http://gryff.net/pawprint/. (The archives are being worked on currently so the last issue will be the only one you can see for now, but they will be back up eventually for your viewing pleasure) This year Professor Zenix James is running the Paw Print, and should be fully up and running! There are several positions open, and I must remind you you can EARN HOUSE POINTS by being on the staff and submitting stories to each edition! So if you love creative writing, what are you waiting for? Click on the image above for the full Paw Print Application information thread and APPLY TODAY! Shiny New Gryff Features! 08/04/2011
Hello Lions! Have you visited Gryffindor Common Room in the last week? If not, you really should start! If so, you’ve noticed a lot of changes taking place. Our DHOH Jenny has been working hard to bring some new features to all of our old Lions and our new Cubs! I thought I’d take a little time to update you on those new shiny things we’ve gained so far in the past few months. (And keep in mind things are still being added… so try to find a way to remind yourself to keep checking back to the forum to see what else changes in the upcoming weeks before the new term begins!) First and foremost, my dears, I would like to point you to the Recent Status Updates box on the right side of the Common Room homepage (http://gryff.net/CR/ for those of you who are a bit lost!). It seems we are more and more growing to be like Facebook… only a little better, since we have busier forums. :) In the past couple months, many things have changed about this little box. Now, you can add comments to other people’s statuses. Of course, that led people to say “we need a like button!” This week, we earned just that. WE NOW HAVE A LIKE BUTTON! So be sure to post some status updates and like your friends’ updates. You can also now access a person’s past status updates on their profile. Because of this, you can see what people have posted on your statuses in case it falls out of the “recent status update” box. It’s also a point of interest that you can also choose to be notified if someone comments/likes one of your statuses. Just visit that box in the upper right-hand corner of the common room (where it says your name), click your name, scroll down to “My Settings”, then go to “Notification Options” on the left-side tabs, and click it. There, you can choose what you want to be notified of and how. Speaking of notifications, those of you who have been on a lot lately have noticed the new “Unread Notifications” box on the right hand corner of the homepage as well. And you’re quite confused why they won’t go away, even after you’ve clicked on it and read that PM. Yes, that’s a little kink in our new shininess. While you’re on your settings page, just click underneath the “Notification Options” tab on the left-side—yes, the one that says “My Notifications.” To get rid of them, just click the boxes beside them and hit “delete.” Simple as that! We now also have some awards we are listing on members’ profiles. If you earn a Gryff award, it might be emblazoned on your profile! So far we only have GQT awards and point awards from last year, but those are a work of progress and something the staff is working on. We will also be giving out badges to those who earn a certain amount of house points throughout the year to be placed on profiles as well. For more info to those awards and badges the Awards Committee is planning this year, please visit here: http://gryff.net/CR/index.php?/topic/1219-awards-and-badges/ Our Gryffindor Radio site has also gotten a new face lift thanks to Professor Bynny, including its' new catchy name GRYFFTUBE. It includes music playlists, music blogs, and a blog called "TV Den Blog" which pretty much features everything else entertainment and fun images/videos found on the world wide web. You can also find a game room with a small collection of games, including Bedazzled and Minesweeper. Check it out today at http://radio.gryff.net With all of that cleared up, I have GREAT NEWS for all of you old Gryffs who have missed the arcade for several years. It’s back!! So far we only have a few games (including Gryff favorites Mahjongg, Ms Pacman, and Battleship and a few new games), but we will slowly be adding more within the next few weeks, so make sure you keep checking back to see if we have added your favorite!) You can find the new arcade on the top tab of the forum, or here: http://gryff.net/CR/index.php?app=iArcade The staff has been working on making updates and changes to the forum and the way we operate it so that this school year will be Gryffindor’s best ye. We hope you are enjoying them! Sincerely, The Gryffindor Staff Welcome to Gryffindor, New Lions! 08/02/2011

First, our Common Room is located here: http://gryff.net/CR/index.php?/index Second, here are the rules for creating an account: http://gryff.net/CR/index.php?/topic/5-registering-for-the-forum/ The most important things to note are that, when you sign up, use your FULL HOL name, proper capitalization/spacing, and the same e-mail you used to sign up on HOL. Finally, you can check the status of your forum account here: http://gryff.net/CR/index.php?/topic/1206-approved-unapproved-registration-fall-2011/ It may take a couple of days to be approved, so please be patient. Also, one of the most important things to know about: the HOL Chatrooms! This is where you can meet amazing people and really get to know the other HOLers (and play Quidditch!!). Everyone is super friendly and I've met some amazing people over the years. You can access them from the front page of HOL, down on the right side of the page, below the set of drop down menus. Or you can get more specific information, with pictures, here: http://gryff.net/CR/index.php?/topic/802-getting-to-the-hol-chatrooms/ Please use your HOL name until we get to know you!
